TWO HUGE NAMES ANNOUNCED FOR SOCCER AID FOR UNICEF
Sir Mo Farah, four-time Olympic champion announced yesterday that he would be playing for Robbie Williams’ England XI team in what is set to be a game like no other. Taking centre stage at Old Trafford on Sunday 10th June, Sir Mo will play for his home nation, taking on his good friend, and fellow Olympian, Usain Bolt. Rumours of when Mo and Usain would go “head-to-head” have been rife ever since the pair took part in their final major track and field championship towards the end of last year.
Gordon Ramsay has today announced on his social media channels that he will play for Usain Bolt’s Soccer Aid World XI. Gordon the first signing for Usain Bolt’s team and is back to reclaim his title, and put his previous injury woes to bed, having pulled out of 2016’s Soccer Aid for Unicef match due to a ruptured Achilles tendon, and being infamously tackled by ex-footballer Teddy Sherringham in 2012.
Gordon Ramsay, Soccer Aid World XI said: “Ever since I had to pull out of the 2016 match, I’ve been eager to reclaim my position in the Soccer Aid World XI squad and take back the title from the England team. It can’t be a coincidence that the last time I played, we smashed it out the park with a 4-2 win! What’s bigger than stepping out in front of 70,000+ fans at Old Trafford with the likes of Usain Bolt by my side? Bring it on!”
Sir Mo Farah, England XI said: “When I got the call from Robbie to play for the England side at the Soccer Aid for Unicef match, I immediately said yes! Everyone knows that I’m absolutely mad about football and to top it off, this event is for such a good cause and helping children around the world makes it something I definitely want to support. My instant ‘yes’ was even easier in the knowledge that I would finally be going head-to-head with my friend Usain Bolt. Usain has the speed but I have the stamina so we’ll see who comes out on top at the end of 90 mins! It’s going to be a brilliant day and hopefully we’ll get to see some Mo-bots as the goals go in for the England team! Let’s go!”
Over the coming weeks, the England V Soccer Aid World XI rivalry is set to intensify further, with some of football’s biggest legends and celebrities set to join Gordon Ramsay, Usain Bolt, Mo Farah and Robbie Williams in the growing line-ups.
