Robbie Williams' Official biggest albums in the UK revealed
Time to count down Robbie's biggest and best albums in the UK.

By George Griffiths
As we discussed earlier this week, Robbie Williams is Britain's ultimate pop showman in chief, and he's celebrating 25 years since the start of his solo career with the new career retrospective XXV.

Currently leading the charge to debut at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart, XXV contains some of Robbie’s best-loved hits, newly-orchestrated and recorded with the Metropole Orkest.

Now that we've revealed Robbie's biggest singles in the UK, it's time now to turn our eyes to his albums.

To date, Robbie has 13 UK Number 1 albums to his name - the most for any British solo artist, and he's currently tied with Elvis Presley. Only The Beatles have more, with 15.

Watch Robbie Williams react to scoring a Number 1 with The Christmas Present

Robbie Williams' Official Charts history in full

5. Life Thru A Lens
Released: 1997
Official Albums Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart units: 2.1 million
Debut albums can be a pressure cooker, but you'd have been forgiven for forgetting that Robbie ever sweated his first album since leaving Take That.

Indeed, Life Thru A Lens' focus on a Brit-pop sound is a curveball most weren't certainly expecting, but then again, who's going to argue against Angels?

4. Sing When You're Winning
Released: 2000
Official Albums Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart units: 2.2 million
Robbie's third album came to fruition after he tried (and famously failed) to crack America in 1999. Still, although Stateside superstardom had evaded him, he re-grouped with frequent collaborators Guy Chambers and Steve Power to re-assert his dominance back home.

And re-assert he did. Sing When You're Winning contained five UK Top 10 singles; including Number 1 singles Rock DJ and Eternity (which wasn't originally included on the tracklist) and his high-throttle duet with Kylie Minogue, Kids.

3. Swing When You're Winning
Released: 2001
Official Albums Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart units: 2.4 million
What do you do when you're at the very apex of your solo career and the undisputed biggest pop star in the country? Release an album of jazz covers, obviously.

One of the biggest swings (sorry) of Robbie's career, his fourth album contained another Number 1 single in the form of Somethin' Stupid with Nicole Kidman and proved to be so successful that he would revisit the form with a sequel record, Swings Both Ways, in 2013. To date in 2022, Swing When You're Winning is Robbie's third biggest-seller here, but his most digitally downloaded album overall (over 94,000 units).

2. Greatest Hits
Released: 2004
Official Albums Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart units: 2.5 million
Coming from a time when greatest hits collections were big, big business, Robbie's first chance to reflect on the first phase of his solo career was a tour-de-force. Containing a Number 1 single (Radio), it may come in second place overall, but it contains the most album streams of any Robbie Williams in the UK.

1. I've Been Expecting You
Released: 1998
Official Albums Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart units: 2.6 million
There were no signs of difficult second album syndrome on I've Been Expecting You. Not only did the single Millennium finally give Robbie the solo Number 1 single he'd been desperate for, it contains some of the most popular songs of his career, included guaranteed tear-jerker She's The One.

Overall, I've Been Expecting You comes out on top as Robbie's most popular album in the UK. It has total chart units registering more than 2.6 million, and is also his most physically-purchased record, with more than 2.5 million physical units sold.

Robbie Williams' Official Top 40 biggest singles in the UK revealed

The biggest singles and songs released by Britain's premiere pop entertainer, ranked, revealed and updated now.

By George Griffiths
In many ways, Robbie Williams is Britain's ultimate, consummate entertainer.

Graduating from his career in Take That as the band's designated cheeky chappie, Robbie left the band in a storm of controversy, but managed to carve out one of the most successful solo careers in the history of British music as a result.

And trust us, the results speak for themselves, with seven solo Number 1 singles and a mind-bending 13 solo UK Number 1 albums (currently tying him with Elvis for the most for a solo artist, ever).

Robbie might just add another to his list, however, as XXV - a brand-new greatest hits compilation celebrating 25 years of his solo career - is currently out-selling the rest of the UK Top 10 combined on its way to Number 1 this week.

And to celebrate, we're presenting you with the updated ranking of Robbie's biggest-ever singles in the UK.

But before we reveal the chart in full, let's count down the Top 10:

10.  Love My Life
Released: 2016
Album: The Heavy Entertainment Show
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 22
Total UK chart units: 377,000
Robbie's most recent Top 40 single, Love My Life was the most successful offering from 2016's super-charged The Heavy Entertainment Show, his first with current record label Columbia.

9. Eternity/The Road To Mandalay
Released: 2001
Album: Sing When You're Winning/Greatest Hits
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart units: 418,000
Classed as the fifth single from Sing When You're Winning without actually being included on the original tracklist, Eternity (a double A-side single issued with The Road To Mandalay) became Robbie's fourth Number 1 single.

8. Somethin' Stupid (with Nicole Kidman)
Released: 2001
Album: Swing When You're Winning
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart units: 505,000
Yes, you read that right. The actual Nicole Kidman. How did the two come together to record this chart-topping duet? Robbie was a big fan of Nicole's Oscar-nominated turn in the musical Moulin Rouge, so asked her to jump on the track.

7. Millennium
Released: 1998
Album: I've Been Expecting You
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart units: 598,000
If there was one thing Robbie Williams wanted after leaving Take That, it was a solo Number 1 single. He didn't get it for quite a while - nearly two years since his debut - but it was Millennium that finally clinched it for him in 1998. Although it a bit annoying a song called Millennium wasn't actually released on the Millennium, right?

6. Feel
Released: 2002
Album: Escapology
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 4
Total UK chart units: 625,000
He just wants to Feel! Real love! The lead track from Escapology was originally released in December 2002 with the intention of being that year's Christmas Number 1. This wouldn't quite work (it peaked at Number 4, sadly) but the track still proves pretty popular - overall, with over 35 million streams to its name, it's actually Robbie's third-most streamed track in the UK.

5. Let Me Entertain You
Released: 1998
Album: Life Thru A Lens
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 3
Total UK chart units: 645,000
One of two tracks (along with Rock DJ) that showcases Robbie at his peacocking best, Let Me Entertain You has proved to be the modus operandi of the star's entire career.

4. She's The One/It's Only Us
Released: 1999
Album: I've Been Expecting You
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart units: 781,000
A weepy if we've ever heard one, She's The One is actually a cover. The song was originally released by British rock band World Party in 1997 before being taken on by Robbie, who issued it alongside It's Only Us.

3. Candy
Released: 2012
Album: Take The Crown
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart units: 952,000
In case you can't tell by listening to Candy, by 2012 Robbie really wanted another Number 1 single. And that's where this giddy, over-the-top tune (written by Take That bandmate Gary Barlow and produced by Jacknife Lee) comes in. Almost custom-engineered to be a hit, Candy's convictions won out, granting Robbie his seventh UK Number 1 single, and first in the UK since Radio in 2004.

2. Rock DJ
Released: 2000
Album: Sing When You're Winning
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart units: 1.1 million
Perhaps the one track that best exemplifies Robbie's unique flair as a pop star; showmanship, the cheeky, snarky ego befitting one of the biggest pop stars of their generation, all packed with the charisma of talking with your mate in the pub. He's got the gift, gonna stick in the goal!

1. Angels
Released: 1997
Album: Life Thru A Lens
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 4
Total UK chart units: 2 million
Probably one of the songs that, if you go up to any citizen of the United Kingdom, could sing for you at the drop of a hat, Angels is perhaps the greatest accomplishment of Robbie's solo career and the very height of his collaboration with frequent co-writer and producer Guy Chambers.

Perhaps you'll be surprised to know that Angels never hit Number 1 in the UK. But then again, none other than Taylor Swift invited Robbie up onstage to perform the song with her at her Reputation tour date in London (where she and the entire crowd knew every word off by heart, naturally), so who needs a Number 1 single after that?

Beatles (15 альбомов)

It was always going to be the Fab Four top of the heap. Over the course of their career, and even beyond their split, John, Paul, George and Ringo have together amassed 15 chart-toppers. Kicking off with debut Please Please Me in 1963, and hitting the top spot 37 years later with hits collection 1 in 2000, the Beatles have spent an incredible 174 weeks at Number 1. Please Please Me was their longest run at the summit, racking up an incredible 30 consecutive weeks at Number 1.

Before we move away from the Beatles entirely, let's take a moment to recognise the artist who's had the most Number 1 albums of all, when other work is included: Sir Paul McCartney. Macca's not only hit Number 1 15 times with his Beatles bandmates, he's also reached the top eight further times: seven as a solo artist and again with Wings & Linda McCartney. If we were crowning anyone ruler of the Official Albums Chart, Sir Paul's record of 23 chart-toppers would be pretty much incontestable. And that's why we made him an Official Chart Record Breaker!

---

Robbie Williams (14 альбомов)

The charismatic breakout star also has 14 chart-topping albums of his own, an impressive enough record, but if you include his Number 1s while part of Take That, he'd have another four to add to his tally (five if you include his features on Take That's 2018 greatest hits collection Odyssey).

As a solo artist, Robbie has spent 37 weeks at the top – yep, more than Madonna (more on her later!) – and his very first Number 1 was his debut Life Thru A Lens, which took 19 weeks to climb to the summit. He most recently made Number 1 in September 2022 with XXV.

With his second swing collection Swings Both Ways released in 2013, he scored the 1,000th Number 1 album of the Official Albums Chart since 1956 - impressive work! Take a look at Robbie's list of Number 1 albums.
